Bahia Honda State Park
Featuring an award winning beach and historic bridge, Bahia Honda State Park at mile marker 37 in the Florida Keys has become a favorite destination for visitors looking for an island paradise. The park, encompassing over 500 acres and an offshore island and offers some of the best snorkeling and beachcombing in Florida. The perfect and quiet getaway for the entire family. A little history . . . the completion of U.S. 1 - the Overseas Highway - opened up Bahia Honda Key to vacationers. In the 1950s, Bahia Honda was a county park with no electricity, using generators for power. There was, however, a gas station and concession. The lack of creature comforts did not keep people from coming to Bahia Honda. Picnicking and swimming were popular pastimes on the Key, just as they are today. Since the initial acquisition of the first 13 acres of the park in 1961, Bahia Honda State Park has become well-known as a recreational treasure. The Bahia Honda State Park has many shore activities for the land lover! To learn more about all the great activities that await you at Bahia Honda State Park, visit the Florida State Parks website.
